It has been a LONG time since I built my TB.. The unit has open collector
drivers which will handle something like 25 volts, but you need to break the
connection to the internal 5 volt reference by cutting BR4. My G-5500 uses
about 15 volts. So cut BR4, and you should be fine. The current draw is
only about 2 ma.
Note that some, or perhaps all, copies of the G-5500 manual have an error on
the UP and DOWN control lines. You can check yours with a jumper. The
correct wiring is Pin 3 for UP, and Pin 5 for DOWN.
