Due to Hurricane Charley all my home antennas are on the ground. This
morning I tried AO-51 with the Arrow and FT-470. I heard KB2M at a hamfest
in Boxboro doing a demo, gave him a call and made a nice quick QSO. Also
quick exchanges when AA4RC and N0ZHE called me. Heard N8MH and N5ZNL call
but could not get back in. (BTW Rick, everything is fine here, Charley was
about 50 mile to our south and east. I took the antennas so he couldn't).
A reminder to the Arrow/HT crowd. Try rotating the antenna on transmit.
Remember AO-51 has a linear receive antenna, so matching polarity will get
you a big bump in uplink strength.
Also, I heard several folks just repeating their call every so often. It is
so much more efficient and productive to pick out a call you want to work
and call them, rather than just announcing your presence. When you call
someone it lets the other ops know you can hear the bird, and saves time in
the exchange.
73, and good luck,
Drew KO4MA
