Re: QRP get no breaks. Huh? (was Re:...)

23:30utc 08/13/04 on AO-27 east pass el 45' worked 6 contacts using HT and
my home brew arrow antenna. AO-27 is the best FM satellite ever, even better
than AO-51 just because it is so easy to get into even when it is loaded
with all the regulars (nothing wrong with being a regular). When working the
FM birds it is all about timing, even more so when working it portable.
SO-50 is very easy to work as well. But I do have a harder time working
AO-51 portable just because its harder to get into because of the pl tone
crashes. But it is very easy to copy even with a HT and a arrow antenna. I
have been working more portable operations on the FM satellites here lately
just to help promote the use of low power and to show that it can be done on
a regular bases.

Anyone who is or thinking about working the FM birds portable should read
the great tip by Emily W0EEC which can be found on the AMSAT web site.

| Greg,
|
| I think this is very a very unfair conclusion. I've had 5 contacts with
| you on AO-51, and I have counted another 5 times where I've called you and
| got no response. I keep track of these events as my log has your callsign
| written in and is crossed off.
|
| Aruni VE4WMK has had 14 HT contacts on AO-51 and 80 total on AO-51, AO-27
| and SO-50. So far today (13 August UTC) I count 16 contacts with users
who
| were using handhelds (that I know of) including 2 with KG6BAE/P who made
| his first voice satellite contacts while trying to dodge someone chasing
| him with a lawn mower.
|
| So I don't think it's a matter of whether or not you are working 5
| watts. Perhaps it's a matter of how you are working the satellite on 5
watts.
