Hello sat fans,
Mike KE4AZN makes a good suggestion in ANS-221.05 this week. Its easy to
follow and it doesn't restrict you to a minimum of QSOs on the bird. To his
idea of only calling for one QSO per pass, I would add that users might
restrict themselves to only calling to make a QSO, and refrain from the "here
I am" announcements. This would certainly reduce unneccessary traffic during
busy passes, and in fact making or attempting a QSO will announce you presence
on the bird. Of course on a bird that is not busy you may want or need to
announce yourself, hi. I was on AO-51 two days ago and made, I confess, two
calls, one to KO2OK whom I had never worked before, and one to WB3JVD/M,
mobile of course to let him know he was being heard. It also served to let the
gang know there was a mobile/portable/low ERP station trying for contacts.
After that I sat back and listened and responded to eight calls to me. Calls I
didn't initiate, but was happy to respond to. Things are improving!
