Re: Cross boom needed

Well, Joe, it was you and Roy Welch (W0SL), who got me to try it, when I was
just certain it was a terrible idea. So the fact that my antennas no longer
slip around (and I don't get slivers in my palms any longer), is your fault!

I strongly recommend anyone contemplating the fibreglas boom installation or
repair go to Howard's site, as mentioned by Joe, and study the paper
presented there. It is VERY well done, practical and explicit with all
variables considered. After reviewing the materials carefully, and multiple
times, looking for what might be wrong (after all, it was challenging one of
my most dearly held positions), I just had to try it. Put simply, Joe and
Roy were right, I was wrong. It works, and works well. No more fibreglas for
me.

Save your money, save the aggravation (and the slivers, and the UV
degradation, and that horrible "tinkling" sound as you tighten the clamps
one more time, trying to prevent another trip to the rotor).
Kent has done us all a big favor by thoroughly investigating and practically
demonstrating how easy it is for most of us satellite enthusiasts to use
metal instead of fibreglas for our cross booms.
