Further on this subject, 
When I put the  duplexer in the  435 side of things, it didn't help a
bit, 
but when I put it in the 2 meter side (transmit) of the system, it
completely
cleared up the desense.  I put a  termination on the 440 port also.  
 
My setup is also the FT-847.
