Re: AO-51

The bird is still tumbling, but the problem people are experiencing trying to "get in" is not due to tumble. It's a matter of simple numbers trying to access the bird. All the stations I heard last night were well equipped home stations able to get over the crush of lesser signals. Unlike UO-14 or AO-27 (but like SO-50) colliding signals of similar strength mask the PL tone needed to turn the transmitter on and no one gets through. THe best way to deal with this is by ALWAYS using full-duplex. If you don't hear yourself by the second syllable, stop transmitting!

Once the novelty wears off, AO-51 will be very easy to work on an HT and arrow, just not with 10 stations trying at once. The same features (FM and easy to use) that draws some new folks in to satellites makes them crowded. Hopefully they don't stop at FM birds, and move on to linear sats like FO-29, AO-7 and soon VuSat, digital sats like UO-22, GO-32 and the other side of Echo, and hopefully soon P3E and Eagle.

Anyone and the command team:

The heavy first day taken into consideration and many saying they can't get into the bird, "me too".

Question:
What is the "attitude" of the receive antenna of AO-51 in relationship to the North American passes?

I also have problems with SO-50, but only in certain directions.
