[amsat-bb] AO-51digital modes with omnidirectional antenna?

I am thinking of setting up a station for AO-51 but am limited to small antennas
at my current location. Looking at the path loss numbers it seems possible to
use an omnidirectional antenna with a 7 Watt downlink on 70 cm at 9600 bps. Has
anyone tried this?
