Mac already stated he used a Yaesu FT-50R.  It is a full duplex, sorta 
small rig, with the LOUDEST audio of any HT I've ever used.  The user 
interface is fairly intuitive, and it's easy to set up frequency pairs for 
working the easy sats.  With the 7v6 battery it is also 5 watt 
capable.  There is a discriminator mod available to bring a 9k6 data point 
out, and it is a trivial mod to kick the thing into wide 
receive/transmit.  Ebay regularly has used ones posted.
