Re: HELP!!!! - Major Frustration

Yep, that was what I was getting at. I don't hear well, even at the horizon
with 110 feet of LMR-400 and a dual band J-pole at 65' with my 847. With an
M2 CP-30 and 80' of LMR-400 @ 8' to the 847, I hear quite a bit. I'm
ordering a 70cm gasfet mastmounted preamp today. I'm also going to try an 8
element linearly polarized quad instead of the fixed RHC CP-30, but that
will be in a few weeks. Without the polarity switch for the CP-30, linear
polarization is probably going to be much better, and certainly less hassle.

BTW, vegetation loss is quite apparent on 70cm. I remember it from the AO-8
days...and was reminded over the weekend. Anything under 10 deg elevation is
in the toilet for me...I can see it clear the leaves...as if opening a
window. That's the only disadvantage of my 8' high oscar pole...the close in
trees cause real problems until I get at least 10 deg, often 20 deg of
elevation.
