Emily,

I have solved similar problems by gently heating, or cooling, the unit.
Usually there is a difference of expansion coefficients which can be
exploited.  A LIGHT tap can also work.

Does the unit have an internal metal case under the plastic rain shield?
All my preamps, from multiple manufacturers, have something similar.
