So do I, but as long as the web graphics are cacheable, and your
browser has a decent size local cache you should only need to download
the graphics once. Graphics that are generated or modified on the fly
are a bad idea in such cases, as the browser would treat them as
completely new images.

A lot of these browser check functions etc., are thrown in by the
program used to design the web page and probably would show up OK on a
large proportion of web browsers without it. On one of our sites
prepared using Dreamweaver, there was a nasty little function that
would cause a complete download of a page if the browser window was
resized.
