IC-910 with Uni_Trac 2003
2 June 2004
To: IC-910 Owners with Uni_Trac 2003,
The problem described in the appended message from KL7TS has me baffled.
We have supplied a lot of UT-2003 systems for IC-910 owners.
This is the first time we have heard of a problem.
Do you have any idea what the cause of his problem is? And a solution?
I am not familiar with the IC-910.
Any help you can give to solve the mystery will be much appreciated.
73s, de John G3BVU/W1.

>Hello John,
>
>TJ Sheffield here, with the Anchorage Amateur Radio Club. We recently
>purchased Uni_Trac 2003 Iím asking for some help prior to Field Day:
>
>1). Uni_Trac 2003 arrived in fine shape ñ thank you very much!
>
>2). Uni_Trac 2003 software was upgraded to Version 4.0.f from the internet
>site.
>
>3). Weíre using the interface cable as delivered with the purchase.
>
>4). Weíre running Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 4, AMD processor,
>262 MB RAM
>
>5). The computer communicates with Uni_Trac 2003 which correctly operates
>the Yaesu G-5400B rotors.
>
>6). IC-910H interface does not yet work. The software will occasionally
>change the state of the radio, but basically reports the IC-910 is turned
>off, is not connected or the baud rate is incorrectly set.
>
>7). There is continuity in the interface cable and all radio control pins
>appear correctly wired based on the documentation (i.e. TTL Port 1 wired to
>pins 4 and 16) with continuity to the tip of the 3.5mm plug. All pins
>indicated as ground are connected to the sleeve of the 3.5mm plug. The
>software is looking for the radio on Port 1.
>
>8). There is a steady 4.46 vdc on the tip of the 3.5mm output plug and the
>Uni_Trac 2003 is showing a ìgreenî (healthy) LED.
>
>9). The 4.46 vdc will ìfluctuateî (from zero to some positive indication
>and back to zero etc.) when a ìTRACK TESTî is initiated by the software
>(sorry I donít have a scope).
>
>10). The ìTRACK TESTî begins by correctly moving the rotors, then the
>ìRefresh Satelliteî box turns to light blue, then the software indicates the
>radio is either turned off, disconnected or the baud rate is incorrect.
>This turns the Uni_Trac LED to a ìredî (unhealthy) condition.
>
>11). There is a steady 4.75 vdc measured on the input jack in the back of
>the IC-910 radio (Uni_Trac plug not connected). This voltage will
>ìfluctuateî when tuning the radio or when changing itís state (for example
>swapping the Main and Sub bands).
>
>12). Iíve made sure the IC-910 baud rate matches the software and Iíve
>tried various combinations from 1200 to 19200 baud, including ìdelaysî of
>from 0 to 250 milliseconds (configured in the software).
>
>13). The IC-910 ìaddressî is the ICOM default of ì60î.
>
>14). The software is set for Radio ì27î (from the documentation).
>
>15). The jumpers inside the Uni_Trac 2003 are all in the Factory Default
>positions ñ i.e. A2 to A3, B2 to B3, C2 to C3, D2 to D3. Iíve tried setting
>the jumpers for Yaesu Port 1 only (assuming Yaesu / Icom) but no luck.
>
>16). Iíve reset the CPU on the IC-910H and Iíve reset the Uni_Trac 2003.
>
>Now I donít know what else to try. Please advise if there is something Iíve
>missed.
>
>Sincerely,
>
