Wayne replies:
It is true that heat dissipation of the BCR goes way up when the battery voltage goes way down. But keep in mind that the existing charge current is reported to be 6 Amps, and that is with the solar panels in the "folded" state where only 2 or 3 of the 6 solar panels produce power at any given time. The BCR was designed to withstand the charging current with deployed solar panels, where all 6 solar panels generate power. The maximum current of the deployed solar panels must surely be much more than 6 Amps.
So the BCR power dissipation when "non deployed" solar panels charge the "bad" main battery may be similar to the BCR power dissipation when "deployed" solar panels charge a nominal" main battery.
