RE: AM on existing Satellites?



Just a thought...  If there are sats out there that use FM... then why can't
we design LEO sats with the same type of power supply for the transponder as
the FM sats but with AM it won't use as much power as it would with FM.
Just a thought...  I don't know anything about designing satellites...  it
was just an idea that came to mind.

Many professional satellite downlinks (e.g. NOAA HRPT)
use such a setup. In the case of HRPT, a BPSK downlink
with just enough residual carrier for a carrier-recovery
PLL to lock on to.
