Some companies use solid-state relays in products for multi-battery 
installations in RV's, boats, and vehicles with lots of radios and 
computers (police cars).  The solid-state relays don't seem to suffer diode 
junction loss and don't dissipate as much heat.  Perhaps, this will be a 
workable alternative?
