No real reason that you have to use hardline....I use it because it is self
supporting, and easier to solder (teflon), and waterproof.
I made one for another fellow on a sailboat, and I used coax inside
of copper tubing for the infinite balun feed. Just make sure you seal
against moisture...it will work just as well..
