Grant,

The PKT output is 10K, and of course the speaker output is designed for 8
ohms or so.  What you describe implies that the TNC is heavily loading the
output.  Most recommendations for TNC hookups tend to recommend the speaker
output for that reason.  You might try a RS audio transformer, or a small
audio amp.  FWIW, I use another type of TNC with no problem on the PKT port.
