I excerpt from the arrl's description of the North Carolina
BPL experiment.....
<The overhead feeder brought the broadband Internet connection to the
neighborhood via BPL. An 802.11-based wi-fi system <provided a bridge from
the feeder to the neighborhood underground system, where it was again
transported on the power line <with BPL. There was a "repeater" in an
above-ground pedestal every block or so, and most of those were connected to
802.11 <wireless access points.
Not only is it expected to raise the HF noise floor...it's going to add crud
on 2.4GHz! And the latter hasn't been discussed...or if it has,
I haven't seen it.
Let's see, 802.11 AP's every few blocks? THAT would allow the power
industry to leapfrog other internet providers....and might produce
a sustainable market position.
