I for one have found a HUGE difference from microphone and processor selection.
I use Heil HC-4 elements both mobile and on AO-40, and they are much easier 
to understand than "stock" microphones (that I've used).
The processor on my FT-726R for AO-40 is a tremendous help...
I would encourage folks to try various combinations and see how you hear 
yourselves...it can really make a big difference!
