RE: Question of ARISS Value

Gunther

Emily (W0EEC) has presented to the list, valid questions not only related to
ARISS but to AMSAT in general. You responded NOT on behalf of the Board. I
know the Board is attempting to address the problems of declining membership
and promotion of AMSAT. This forum is a valid place for the board to
communicate those issues.

=========    You conclude:
In conclusion, until we have some volunteer help, or a Substantially
larger annual operating budget, these sorts of weakness will be
apparent... We can fix this, WITH MONEY and more help.

AMSAT as an organization has done some incredible things. Why was it so
successful in the early days and struggling in today's world?

My personal view is that the structure of the organization is far too
centralized at the Board level. Other than the area coordinators, there is
absolutely no localized structure. Volunteer participation requires face to
face contact. I for one would much rather work within a localize structure
to develop membership and regional policies under the direction of the
Board. If you want more volunteers, I think you need to create a structure
that would facilitate that goal.

It seems that the only request for participation from the membership is,
SEND US MORE MONEY we will solve the problems.

NOT speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, I will share my views
regarding the money we spend on the ARISS program and the publicity
AMSAT receives for the involvement.

Thanks for the bandwidth.
