Re: Newbie needs help with AO-40!!
Hi Thomas,
Have put this on the reflector rather than direct as others may be interested or have
comments.
I and others here when starting off on sats like ao-40 (ao-10, ao-13) have used
linear ant and some have been quite small. With 50 watts you should be having
much better results. Good advise has already been given you on losses etc.
Some further thoughts, based on my findings earlier, be aware of desense from the
up link into the rcv that is acting as the tunable IF. This will depend a lot on what
your downlink rcv is. I had strife using 70cm downlink rcv with BBQ grill set-up (I
realise that's not the case with you), separating the uplink downling system may
give you a clue.
Make VERY sure you are hearing the downlink from the satellite and not direct from
your uplink tx, biggest clue is lack of delay on your recoverd signal also lack of
signal variation as you move the uplink ant. As above separation may help.
It drove me nuts for awhile here till the penny dropped.
Good luck, stick with it. Look forward to a contact from "down under" on ao-40 with
you.
