[amsat-bb] Interesting "thing" on a prime dish

You'd be surprised what you can find on ebay...  I picked up a +/- 70cm
prime focus radar dish from a Boeing 747.

The dish has what I would describe as a strip of "blinds" or "louvers" glued
across the diameter of the dish, just above center:

Any idea what those would be for, and can I/should I remove them?
