RE: Cracks in Earth's Magnetic Field

I think the mystery effect is thought to be a design "feature" in having
a net torque applied by the permanent magnets in the momentum
wheels.

Subject: [amsat-bb] Cracks in Earth's Magnetic Field

Hi all,
I saw the following statement in a bulletin - " STORMY SPACE WEATHER SLIPS
THROUGH CRACKS
-----------------------------------------
Immense cracks in Earth's magnetic field remain open for hours, allowing
the solar wind to gush through and power stormy space weather, according
to new observations from NASA and European satellites.

Does anyone have any thoughts on it perhaps being related to the " Mystery
Effect " observed on AO- 40?
