The most logical and universally-known satellite names are the names that
appear in the published Keplerian elements. Most tracking programs use that
name as default. It's a naming standard that already exists, and every
satellite operator has a file that contains all the names.
The only gray area would be what name to use for the Space Shuttles. The
Keplerian element satellite names are always STS-xx, or STS-xxx. So you
might want to stick with the specific flight names just to be consistent.
