Re: Yaesu G-5500 Rotator Problem

I just got a repair estimate from Yaesu of $420 to repair my 1.2 Ghz module
for my FT-736. A replacement M57762 power module was included in the
estimate at a price of $220. RF Parts has this module listed for $89.95.
Either Yaesu has a very hefty markup or poor procurement practices.

I once sent a Kenpro KR-500B elevation rotor to them for repair. I was
unable to open the case due to stuck phillups head bolts. Their estimate
included replacement of the motor at a cost of $295 which was close to the
original purchase price. After they returned the rotor to me, I was able to
repair the rotor by replacing a small spring I obtained from the local
hardware store for 25 cents.

To be fair, I have also had good experiences with their repair services.
However, it seems like recently, they quote unreasonable and uneconomical
prices to discourage business or cover up technical shortcomings.
