Jimmy,
I too am running an aidc-3731 (murata filter mod, original xtal) with an
Icom PCR-1000 and BBQ dish. I also get a noticeable noise increase when I
power up the down converter but the s-meter doesn't budge. I've seen the
s-meter at s1 to s2 (beacon) only a couple of times when the squint was
good. I'm working on a DEM preamp and 1 meter dish which should really
improve things. Just thought I'd let you know I'm getting similar
results...
