AMSAT was saddened to learn of the death of Beacham Leonard, W4RXG.
He was 79 years old. Beacham was a long time AMSAT member and a ham
radio operator for over 50 years.Beacham served in the US Army Air
Corps in the Pacific Theatre and was among the first American soldiers
into Tokyo in August 1945 to set up communications for the Army of
Occupation.  He attended the Capitol Radio Electronics Institute in
Washington DC and then moved to Winston-Salem.  He worked for several
radio stations and became a transmitter engineer for part of the UNC
Center for Public TV system. He retired in 1988 and became active in
the Kiwanis Club and the Special Operations Response Team.  We will
certainly miss him.
