Basically less than lambda/10 hole for less than 1dB loss is the rule of
thumb. But also take a look at...

size.

How accurate this is I don't know. It's a 20 year old book!

I remember someone mentioning a rule of thumb for the maximum pitch of
wire mesh used as a reflector on a dish antenna.... something like the
"holes" or pitch of the wire should be no larger than 1/8 or 1/10
wavelength?  What was that value?
