Since you took a private message back to the -bb, here's the rest of it. You've been on AO-40 for 2 weeks during periods of optimum squint. It also seems that you can't discuss this without getting personal. When you have been on a while, and been through some poor squints and maybe another cluster____ like the qso party, you will understand what everyone is telling you.
The fact remains the procedure is 8-10 db down, and this applies to everyone, regardless of equipment. If you have a magical BBQ dish, then fine.
And since when does an S unit equate to db? Do you really think your S-meter is linear?

Hey gang,
Success today on AO-40. Not only can I copy the beacon at S8 or so, but I
made a couple of QSOs. Haven't been this excited since I worked my first
RS-13 QSO.
I reported a couple of weeks ago that I couldn't copy the beacon. Well, I
had a solder short in my AIDC down converter on the Murata filter board.
With that fixed, things work great. I also got a new rotor, a Ham-M, that
replaced the AR-22. Works much better now!
Good to be back on the air after nearly a year....Good to be on AO-40 for
the first time ever. Thanks to N0YK for the first QSO.

Jon

You deny the facts.
Beacon level: S8
QSOs worked: S0 to S2
What part of facts don't you understand?
Obviously the guys I worked have not been at beacon level. Or am I just
too
stupid to realize that a beacon level of S8 and an SSB voice level of S0
or
S1 are equivalent?
You are the one with the closed mind.
