The easiest way to take care of all of the duties while using an HT is to
use a palmcorder or digital recorder to record the pass. At the beginning of
the recording before keying state the time in local or UTC and the name of
the bird. Then during playback, you can listen carefully and log the time
using a stopwatch. By using a stopwatch you can pause the recording and
watch at the same time to take breaks and not lose your place.

an Arrow antenna in one hand, the mike in the other hand and a little old
laptop which I use to log the QSOs with one finger from the hand holding the
mike. I control the radio from the mike. It's not as sophisticated as
Wayne's solution but it's quite efective when you are used to it.
