Downconverter Protection revisited

I was going through some past messages on the BB and noticed a thread on
Downconverter Protection that had some missing info that I'd like to add.
My comments are aimed at the SSB Electronic Protector. This device is
designed to protect Downconverters in TWO ways. It first acts as a limiter
and will handle 50 W SSB/CW and 30 W FM
for a minimum of 10 seconds. Used in this fashion it can be inserted
anywhere in the coax line - at the radio or at the downconverter.
Secondly as an ADDED BONUS:
If the protector is mounted near the radio - it will present a high VSWR
during TX causing the radio protect circuit to shut down. This is why people
who have TX'ed higher power than the recommended limits have had their
downconverters saved. The above information is pretty clear on their WEB site
at http://www.ssbusa.com
In one post, it states that you can remove 2 coils and a cap if you do not
need DC Feedthrough. Guess I'm confused because I can't see why anyone would
want to disable the DC feedthrough capability since most radios have the
ability to turn this feature on or off. In chatting with Jerry @ SSB he
mentioned that these coils and caps are part of the protector circuit and
should under NO circumstances be removed!
Guess the device works because I understand that to date, no one who has
purchased the SSB Electronic PROTECTOR has informed them that they killed
their SSB UEK-3000, DB6NT MKU24TM OSCAR or other DOWNCONVERTER by
transmitting in to it.
