Yes, they did. In fact, the authors went on at some length because the 
antenna examples were the 435 MHz patch antennas on AO-40. The is some 
resizing required if the di-electric between the elements is something 
other than air. On AO-40, they had to use a honeycomb material to 
provide the spacing, and that drove their element resizing.

I think, for my first attempt, I'll go with the straight K3TZ design. 
If I'm successful fabricating that, then I'll play around with other 
spacing substrates.
