Re: WX-proofing a Helix Feed
I built my 5.75 turn helix feed in 2-cup stainless mini-saucepan to act as the
'cupped' feed I kept reading about. I found a pan at Cook 'N Stuff that had
the identical dimensions to the cupped feed that Jerry, K5OE, has on his
website. I was able to bend the handle of the pan so that it positioned the
assembly at the right distance from my 1M offset fed dish. To weatherproof
it, I cut down a 2-liter Diet Coke bottle, slid it over the saucepan, and
held it on with a large screw-type hose clamp. I know it's not "perfect" by
any stretch, but when the squint is good, I hear the beacon at S9+ using a
TransSystem 3731 that I bought from Bob, K5GNA.
Now if I can ever find the time to finish my positioner and mount my 70cm beam
on the whole shebang, I'll join you guys on AO-40!
73, Jim KQ6EA
