I'd say a baffle of some sort to shield the window would be fine --
just make it stout enough to divert the direct blast of the separation
motor and keep from getting bent due to aerodynamic forces around the
nose area of the ET. As long as the window isn't hit by the direct
blast of the separation motor exhaust, it should at least improve the
view.
I did see the footage in the QuickTime version, at least -- if you know
what you're looking for, you can see MECO and ET sep just before the
movie ends, with the ET going into a slow roll after separation. My
guess is if they can figure out a way to keep the window from getting
sandblasted, the view from the ET after SRB sep should be pretty
spectacular. MECO is usually pretty interesting -- you should be able
to see surface ice, etc. knocked off when the SSME's cut off and when
the explosive bolts fire ..
