Hello, all.
I am doing an assignment for a post-graduate subject at university that
involves describing and to some extent analysing the AO-40 transmission
'system': earth-stations and satellite.
I am in the final stages when I am approaching panic, because I am 'running
out' of data and illustrations. This general call for assistance is
indicative of my level of concern, but I realise that everyone else is busy,
too.
Assistance has been sought from: Michael Fletcher; Stacey Mills; Karl
Meinzer; Peter Guelzow; and others.
It may appear that I am asking for 'everything'; but, I already have much of
the web-searchable data... but I DO NOT KNOW what I might have missed! So,
any pointers to useful URLs will be gratefully received.
Also, I would be VERY pleased to hear from genuine experts who can assist
with answering specific questions using 'public' information. (I am not on a
'fishing expedition' for insider-only information.)
for 430MHz-24GHz - any/all bands, but prefer >1.2GHz
AO-40
- measured Tx output;
- measured receiver sensitivity (and S/N, and any other details that might
be useful);
- measured feeder loss;
- measured antenna gain;
GROUND
- measured signal strength against distance;
- examples of measured Rx system performance (feed line loss, Rx parameters,
antenna/feed description, plus general description)
- examples of measured Tx system performance (feed line loss, Tx parameters,
antenna/feed description, plus general description)
ILLUSTRATIONS
- spacecraft 'exploded diagram' (higher quality than at www.amsat.org if
possible);
- general schematic of the communications system;
[I have access to good general pictures of the antennas and spaceframe from
obvious sources. No more, please. However, any 'as built' photos that might
be useful would be worthwhile. Is the archive of photos of/from the lab at
Florida still online somewhere?]
Thanks for your assistance. I know that you are all busy, too.
Best wishes,
Peter
