Re: Query About Sound Card TNC

Richard:

AFAIK, until recently 9600 baud PACSAT (UO-22) could only be done with a
hardware TNC - at least two way access - receive only has worked previously. I
currently have a typical hardware setup - PK-96 TNC, WISP (PACSAT) software, and
Nova/UniTrac to tune Doppler and move my rotator. I have an FT-847 radio that
has a 9600 baud packet audio interface - on older radio's you will need access
to discriminator level audio for 9600 baud to work - you can't just use the
speaker audio on any radio's I know of to work 9600 baud.

As far as a software/soundcard only RX/TX PACSAT solution, it's been done
recently - it currently requires two serial ports be tied together with a
null-modem cable and use of the MIXw software to emulate a KISS TNC and WISP -
hopefully the person testing this will be able to give some details soon.

Subject: [amsat-bb] Query About Sound Card TNC

Hello Amsat BB,

Can someone please tell me about the existence of software that when loaded
into these modern computers, will cause a TNC function for working with
satellites? Would it be good enough for the 9600 baud pacsat satellites? say
working with UO-22. (and the 1200 bd microsats too). This presumes that the
sound card is very modern. All you would need then is a sound card interface
to the radio for the digital comms side of it.

Richard Atkinson, VK4ZA.
