Re: FT-847 Filters

John

I installed the 2.1 KHz Inrad filter in my FT847 (as well as the 400 Hz cw
filter). It makes a world of difference. The splatter and poor loud signal
handling capability has essentially disappeared. I suspect that the stock
ceramic filters that come with the box and even the poor excuse for a
Collins mechanical filter you could but shouldn't buy as an option are just
plain terrible with bad shape factors and ultimate rejection probably
flattening out at -45 db or less. The IRC filters have published sharp
skirts and ultimate rejection probably down to -90 db. See

http://www.qth.com/inrad/

Basically with the IRC filters it is a really good radio. Even on HF.
Without them it is convenient but mediocre.

I have no connection with Inrad except as a satisfied customer but I will
say IMO that its owner W2VJN is both smart and honest, a rare combination
these days.
