To all concerned,
I've spent quite sometime in the Caribbean on business and found that very
close to all ISP in the area charge a per byte rate for access. I don't know
how ANS in MIME format compares with it in text. The situation is the same in
Africa. I don't see many members in either place having much need to be able
to have links available. We also have many hams who have eMail access via a
text-only service such as Juno. I have in the past taken the bulletins and
posted them on my packet server. I had planned on starting that service again
the end of this month. MIME doesn't do well on the RF side of the house.
There're many sea going ham's that subscribe to various eMail services that
aren't able to handle or won't handle MIME messages or attachments.
My personal view is that I see it as another step away from RF and towards the
Internet that we all tell ourselves that is hurting Amateur Radio.
