Or you can just jumper the 7812 regulator inside the Transystem 3731 so that
it's not working, and feed just 12V to the downconvertor. This will also
reduce the power requirements a little, saving you a little battery life.
This idea not original to me, just suggested by the Transystem guru, Bob
