Bdale Garbee gave a talk on this today at this year's AMSAT-UK Colloquium.

I believe he said he'll be posting the contents at

Very basically in answer to your question they're investing time and energy
into creating a DSP 9k6 modem rather than using the hardware unit. There's a
school of thought which says that the hardware unit may be getting upset by
the transponder.

If the fault is indeed with the hardware modem, The DSP implementation
should allow the RUDAK and the analog passband to operate simultaneously.

I didn't get a time frame on this.

There was lots, lots more in the talk, but this is probably the bit you're
