I have the same problem here. I am active on AO-40 since May last year.
I have big trees which blocks my access to the satellite when it comes
from southwest and below 12° elevation. Unfortunately this is the
direction for the window to USA. But in winter, when the leaves
were off I could look with 2,4 GHz receive through the trees.
