AO-7 Heard

Finally took a listen and heard the 20:00-20:22 utc/6-30-2002 pass of AO-7
on 435.107. Strong signal on the FT-847/436CP42. Lots of FMing and the
signal appeared to have "ghosts" or aliases so the signal was multi-tone
CW. That makes it hard for me to copy so didn't make the attempt...but it
obviously was the bird with its strings of ciphers being sent.
Simultaneous listening on 145.972 heard nothing untiI realized the the
FT-817 was switched to the front antenna port...after switching to the
dual-band vertical I heard the beacon weakly.

It was a straight overhead pass so I started listening when at max elev. of
83 degrees. LOS was pretty close to the NOVA predict. Keeping up with the
rapidly changing doppler and antenna positions manually is fun with these
low birds! Kind of spoiled with AO-10/13/40! Well the lawn is up over my
knees so time to mow it...later!
