I used them on my M2 CP30 and they work just dandy. I'm using LMR-400 about
80'. I bought a dozen of them after checking them out. I don't see anything
that would result in significant mismatch at 70cm, so I don't think the
problems you are having are related to the new style connector. In fact,
I'll be putting a couple more on this weekend for a 70cm eggbeater.
All this talk about FO-20 and 29 got me interested <g>. I found my 2m
Egg-beater worked quite nicely for FO-20 the other night...although it was a
pain in the rear to track az/el with my CP30 on the downlink.
I hated the old style N's, but used them where appropriate. I much prefer
the newer two piece, PL-259 style ones. For me they are much easier to put
on and mechanically more robust (pulling and twisting). I wouldn't be
surprised if they werent as "perfect" as the originals, but even at 70cm
things are not critical enough to cause SWR problems. Even a PL-259 isn't
awful, if properly installed at 70cm.
