Thinking this a bit further (see my previous post) the operating sequence
would be:
1 ground station sends [APRS packet or other digital identifier] on
Frequency 1 (1st uplink) to "register"
2 Satellite listens on this for {APRS packet} and when it hears the
correct "registration" it sends [APRS packet] back on Frequency 2
downlink indicating that the second uplink frequency is open for 10 seconds
for that caller only. At the ground station a red LED glows while that
station has the satellite.
3 Ground station sends [APRS packet] prefix and voice message up on
frequency 3 (second uplink) and hears him/herself coming back on
frequency 2 (downlink).
If any other ground station calls on frequency 3 it won't get into
the satellite - however hard the wolf huffs and puffs - unless the
wolf prefixes his call with someone else's [APRS packet] which is illegal.
4 Meanwhile someone else has "registered" with frequency 1 and the
satellite ends the relay with a {APRS packet} swithching him/her on.
ponderous? could be quite quick throughput. Unless the wolf hogs frequency
1 in which case he will have no one to talk to. And he can't broadcast
because he's only got 10 seconds.
