That's wrapping words around something that the original author did not 
say.  Nowhere did he mention "that there's absolutely *nothing* we
can learn from non-amateur practice".

Many people will take issue that CW is extinct - again, baiting people with 
something that was *not* said - and SSB is pretty popular from what I hear.

Many advances are being made in technique, however.  I enjoy PSK31 on the 
satellites as well as other bands, along with whatever may come down the 
pike in the way of new technology.  But that doesn't mean we must 
unilaterally turn our back on the past.  There have been times that a CW 
QSO through AO40 was all I could manage due to the vagaries of the 
satellites' position relative to mine.  Beats sitting there *not* taking 
advantage of the opportunity.  Yeah, I even run AM on 6 meters once in 
awhile....it's an authorized mode, and it's fun....and not 
obsolete/extinct.  :-)
