I agree Wane, on Saturday when we have discuss with Dom I8CVS and Shlomo
4X1AS that was my same impression.
During the first morning (11:00 P.M local time) I'm able to heard my uplink
very weak but befor the end of pass when sat was at maximun higth from the
earth our signal was excellent and the squint angle was abt 9 degrees.
I can't undestant what happened to AO-40 , maybe is the AGC level or whe can
see this effect when there are many stations.. I don't know.
So, after our QSO I have tested with Dom I8CVS my Reception system because
usually I call on AO-40 other stations without answers.
I have strong signals from other peoples but at 60% of case nobody listen
me...very strange!
I use a cheap downconverter by Cal Amp and I'm able to listen the trasponder
noise level with my 80cm offset dish and 5 turn LHCP helix.
I'm sure is not like commercial downconverter whic mostly hams have but I
can receive them and no viceversa.
In uplink I'm using only 13el RHCP with Max power 35watt on 70cm and I heard
my downlink .
Please Ham...remember is important to improve reception and no
transmission...I'm sure if I receive my signal you must listen the same or
you have problem...sorry.
