[amsat-bb] FT-726R mods?

There was a mod published way back when in Ham Radio about increasing
the IF gain of the RF modules on 6m and 2m for improved reception...has
anyone actually implemented this mod?  
Plus, on the 'net there's a couple of interesting ones as well, one in
particular aimed at increasing SSB intelligibility.  Again, any
experiences?
