Re: Beacon Strength



I need to add my $.02...

I am using a 96 cm offset dish, a 5 turn helix, a homebrew pre-amp to a
Norsat 2500, feeding a Hamtronics 2m to 10 m converter.

 With good squint, at/near apogee, I get 30-33 DB over the noise floor, as
measured by ao40rcv (about 10 db per graduation, I am told).  DSP greatly
helps readability on QSOs.

Yet the S meter on the RS HTX10, HTX100, and SGC  SG2020 ALL show only 1 or
maybe 2to 2.5 units from my noise floor (off pointing) and the MB.

I conclude the S metrer is meaningless in this case- I just peak with it.

I use the idle tones between blocks as my reference to measure.
