Effect of Trees on S2 Band Signals
- Subject: [amsat-bb] Effect of Trees on S2 Band Signals

Hi All,
I have tried five times, unsuccessfully, to receive AO-40 S2 band
signals. There are trees and buildings about 60 feet away from the
antenna. I would like to know if they are close enough to significantly
degrade the signal reception.
My system is a home-brew 16 turn helix (G3RUH design) bolted to a DEM
2401-144 RX down converter, then through 20 feet of RG-58 coax to an
ICOM 821H transceiver. The antenna is five feet above ground.
I use NOVA and update the keps frequently so I am certain that the
antenna is correctly pointed.
Any information will be most helpful. (But please don't tell me to wait
until late October when the leaves will be off of the trees.)
